Tony La Russa Has Dropped Lawsuit Against Twitter

by Greg Bussmann on July 7, 2009

It appears as if St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has dropped his lawsuit against Twitter and quietly walked away. A recent filing in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco states this and also makes clear that he was not compensated in any way by Twitter in exchange for dropping the suit. Predictably, there were no comments made from any of the parties involved.

So, now I ask…does anybody still care? If you do, Law.com offers a nice explanation of the entire story, including why La Russa had a potentially shaky legal footing from the start.

The only thing about the whole case that kind of makes me scratch my head is this quote from the story:

On June 5, La Russa told reporters that Twitter had agreed to pay legal fees and make a donation to his Animal Rescue Foundation to settle the suit. But the next day, Twitter CEO Biz Stone posted a response entitled “Not Playing Ball” on the company’s blog, writing that “Twitter has not settled, nor do we plan to settle or pay.”

Why would La Russa even say that without it being locked down and agreed upon?
